Minimum operating temperature for pipes and forgings per ASME

This post was last edited by xinchen on 2026-6-22 11:13. For example: SA105, SA106 GrB, what is the minimum operating temperature? Where in the specifications is it clearly stated? Or should I just look it up using UCS66?
There is no unified minimum fixed temperature specified in ASME standards; the lowest operating temperature for pipes and forgings depends on the material grade, heat treatment condition, thickness, and whether impact testing has been conducted. The key criterion for determination is the Minimum Design Metal Temperature (MDMT).
Thank you! Analyzing the cause of this problem: SA-20 has minimum impact test temperatures for sheets such as 516.70 at different thicknesses. SA320 also specifies a minimum impact test temperature for L7. . . So I’m wondering if there are also standards for pipe materials and forged material standards? Or is there none, and we can only rely on Chapter UCS66 to make a judgment?
