Who will stamp it? What about CE? I’ve just started learning ASME, and there’s a lot I don’t understand
The difference between ASME equipment with and without a U-stamp lies in the degree of compliance with ASME codes. The U stamp indicates that the equipment has passed ASME certification, meets ASME’s design, manufacturing, and testing standards, and can be sold and used in the U.S. market. The absence of a U-stamp indicates that the equipment has not been certified by ASME, may not meet ASME’s relevant standards, and might not be usable in the U.S. market. The responsibility for stamping the steel seal usually lies with the manufacturer, who must conduct thorough testing and verification of the equipment to ensure it meets ASME requirements. Manufacturers usually choose an independent third-party organization for certification. As for CE certification, it is a mandatory certification required by the European Union to determine whether a product meets European standards regarding safety, hygiene, and environmental protection. Unlike ASME, CE certification is not applicable to the U.S. market. Therefore, if you want to sell or use equipment in the European market, you may need to obtain CE certification. .
For boiler and pressure vessel manufacturing companies, international projects as well as domestic subcontracting projects generally require manufacturing in accordance with ASME standards. In particular, products bearing the ASME mark must be manufactured in compliance with these standards, and a certified inspector (AI) appointed by an ASME-approved inspection agency (AIA) acts as a third party to oversee the entire process.
