Stainless steel reaction vessels can also be used, but it is important to take into account factors such as the corrosion resistance and pressure tolerance of the vessel. In some acidic environments, stainless steel can be corroded, which is why tubular reactors are needed for certain reactions. Although the nitration reaction uses highly hazardous nitric acid and sulfuric acid, there are no uniform requirements regarding the reactors to be used. Given the differences in the raw materials, products, scale of production, and methods of material separation in nitration reactions, it is not possible to stipulate that only a specific type of reactor must be used. The advantage of tubular reactors is their ability to operate continuously, but batch reactors offer the benefits of flexible operation, easier control over reaction conditions, and a well-established production process; especially for the small-scale production of nitration products, batch reactors are more suitable. A strongly acidic chemical reaction, especially if the temperature is also high. It is not recommended to use reactors made of stainless steel; instead, reactors with enamel coating or anti-corrosion linings should be used.
