The material used was Q345R + TA1, and the head was formed through a single process of heating and pressing, thereby setting a new record for Anhui Company in terms of the manufacturing of thick-walled heads made from special materials using this method. This head weighs 7.84 tons, with a wall thickness of 94+3 mm; it is made of titanium composite material. In the face of these challenges, the production department of Anhui Company, in collaboration with the technical department, conducted a thorough analysis and evaluation of the manufacturing process for this head. They carried out on-site simulations to address the difficulties in the manufacturing process and the bottlenecks in production, analyzed potential problems that could arise during pressing, and developed emergency plans in advance. Through multiple calculations and process optimizations, the optimal method for shaping this head was ultimately determined. Secondly, the material of this end cap is special, making one-time molding difficult; it requires high temperatures for heating, high precision in the molds, and strong capabilities from the pressing machines. The molding team carries out thorough preliminary preparations: they assign experienced personnel for the pressing process, define the responsibilities of each team member, select appropriate mold pullers, and ensure that all necessary tools for mixing and alignment are readily available. During heating, strict control is exercised over the rate of temperature increase, the holding temperature, and the holding time. After the material is taken out of the furnace, the team members work together in coordination to ensure that the time from taking it out of the furnace to the pressing step is within the specified limits. The technical department provides on-site guidance. Initially, two pressing steps were planned, but based on the actual conditions on site, only one pressing step was carried out. After molding, measurements were taken, and the diameter of the head, the total internal height, and the shape tolerances were all within acceptable limits. The successful delivery of this end cap has enabled Anhui Company to gain experience in the one-time pressing process for thick end caps made from special materials, expanded the range of thicknesses that can be achieved for such end caps, and opened a new chapter in the company’s overall warm-pressing operations. It represents a significant step forward for Anhui Company toward achieving its goals of becoming a high-end, international enterprise specializing in special materials!
