I. Working principle: The stainless steel wire mesh demister (also known as wire mesh mist eliminator or foam catcher) is an efficient gas-liquid separation device, primarily used to separate liquid droplets with a diameter of 3 μm to 5 μm. As the gas containing mist rises at a certain speed through the mesh, due to the inertia of the rising mist, it collides with the mesh fibers and gets attached to their surfaces. The diffusion of mist on the surface of the filament, along with the gravitational settling of the mist, causes the mist to form larger droplets that flow down the filament toward the junction of the two filaments. The wettability of the filament, the surface tension of the liquid, and the capillary action of the filament cause the droplets to grow larger and larger. Once the aggregated droplets become large enough such that the gravity they generate exceeds the combined force of the upward force exerted by the gas and the surface tension of the liquid, the droplets separate from the filament and fall downward. After passing through the wire mesh demister, the gas is essentially free of mist. Separating the mist from the gas helps to improve operating conditions, optimize process parameters, reduce equipment corrosion, extend the service life of equipment, increase processing capacity and recover valuable materials, protect the environment, and reduce air pollution. Stainless steel wire mesh demisters achieve a capture efficiency of 98%-99.8% for mist particles with a diameter of ≥3–5 um, while the pressure drop across the demister is very low, at only 250–500 Pa, which helps to improve the production efficiency of equipment. They are widely used in industries such as chemicals, petroleum, sulfuric acid, pharmaceuticals, light industry, metallurgy, machinery, construction, aviation, maritime transport, and environmental protection. In the production equipment for ethylene, synthetic ammonia, and chemical fibers that has been imported into China from abroad, wire mesh demisters are also used as gas-liquid separation devices. II. III. Domestic Standards for Stainless Steel Wire Mesh Demisters
The filter mesh used in stainless steel wire mesh demisters must be made of gas-liquid filter mesh, and the appropriate specification and model of such mesh should be selected based on the operating conditions. HG5-1404 (1405, 1406)-81 standard deciliter steam tube type (1404), reduced-diameter type (1405), and full-diameter type (1406). The diameter of the demister ranges from 100 mm to 6400 mm, with mesh heights of 100 mm and 150 mm available. When placing an order, only the part number and the material to be used need to be provided. Marking example: HG5-1406-81-11. 304/304 indicates that both the grid and the mesh are made of 304 stainless steel; it is a full-diameter top-mounted mesh demister with a diameter of 1600 mm and a height of 100 mm. The new standard HG/T21618-1998 combines the three installation types: rising steam pipe type, reduced-diameter type, and full-diameter type ; Four network types, namely SP, HP, DP, and HR, are proposed, and the range of available materials is expanded ; And the interval density for setting the specification dimensions has increased. Marking example: HG/T21618 Wire mesh demister S 1600-100 SP 304/304 indicates that both the grid and the wire mesh are made of 304 stainless steel; it is of top-mounted type, with a diameter of 1600 mm and a height of 100 mm, and uses an SP-type wire mesh for demisting. HG/T21586-98 (Drawer-type wire mesh demister): This standard is primarily applicable to situations where the demister elements need to be cleaned or replaced frequently, such as in the dryers and absorbers of sulfuric acid plants. The range of nominal diameters available includes 56 options, from DN300 mm to DN5000 mm. When placing an order, only the part number and the selected material are required (among which 316L, NS-80, and RS-2 are the mesh materials used for sulfuric acid plants). Marking example: HG/T21586.11-98 WME-1600-100 NS-80/Q235-A indicates a drawer-type wire mesh demister in which the wire mesh is made of NS-80 and the grid is made of carbon steel, with a diameter of 1600 mm and a height of 100 mm.
