Safety first. Prevention first – let’s give praise and support to the achievements made in China’s chemical engineering technology and equipment. **********************【Ten Years of Great Development in Chemical Engineering Equipment】A continuously updated summary post is available; feel free to join the discussions at https://bbs.hcbbs.com/thread-3576046-1-1.html (Source: Haichuan Chemical Engineering Forum) ***************** Recently, China’s first 4-meter-class carrier rocket, the Long March 12, was successfully launched from the Hainan Commercial Space Launch Site, sending the Satellite Internet Technology Test Satellite and the Technology Test Satellite 03 into their intended orbits. During the execution of this mission, Shenzhou Precision Manufacturing Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Henan Xinlianxin Chemical Industry Group, collaborated with the Shanghai Aerospace Precision Machinery Research Institute to be involved in the development of the rocket’s fuel tanks throughout the process. The spin-forming technology for tank heads was used to help enable the first flight of the Long March 12 rocket. In 2018, after receiving the task of developing rocket tank heads, Shenzhou Jinggong promptly assembled a research team to conduct in-depth technical discussions and feasibility studies. From the strict selection of raw materials to the precise design of manufacturing processes, every step is carefully considered and verified. The company’s technical staff work round the clock, using advanced simulation software to accurately predict and optimize key performance indicators such as the structural strength and sealing quality of the end caps. At the same time, a strict quality control system was established to closely monitor each step of the production process, ensuring that any minor defects can be detected and corrected promptly. It is reported that the diameter at the bottom of the fuel tank of the Long March 12 rocket is around 4 meters, which exceeds the manufacturing capabilities of China’s current largest fluid forming machines; this became a bottleneck in the development of this rocket model. In particular, the tank head, as a key component of the rocket fuel tank, its quality and performance are directly related to the overall reliability and safety of the rocket.
During the development process, Shenzhou Jinggong worked closely with the Shanghai Aerospace Precision Machinery Research Institute to use advanced spinning techniques to manufacture the head products. During the manufacturing process, the technical team overcame numerous technical challenges. By using a two-step spinning method, they ensured the uniformity and stability of the material’s properties, thereby significantly enhancing the strength and toughness of the end caps, allowing them to withstand extreme pressure and temperature conditions. “The successful forging of rocket tank head products marks another innovation and breakthrough by Shenzhou Precision in head manufacturing technology. In the future, Shenzhou Precision Engineering will continue to explore advanced technologies and processes to help realize China’s space ambitions and reach new heights. ”The person in charge of Shenzhou Jinggong Company said. It is understood that Shenzhou Jinggong Manufacturing Co., Ltd. possesses the largest intelligent double-acting presses in the country, with a capacity of 39,000 tons, as well as specialized pressing machines with a capacity of 20,000 tons. These facilities enable the complete production of sealing heads of various materials and special shapes, with diameters ranging from 51 to 7,500 mm and thicknesses up to 400 mm, as well as various large-diameter seamed sealing heads. It has been involved in the research and development sowie related work for key projects such as the power end caps for domestic aircraft carriers and the large-diameter end caps used in Hualong One nuclear power plants.
On the evening of November 30, China’s space program reached another important milestone – the new carrier rocket, Long March 12, successfully completed its maiden flight at China’s first commercial space launch site in Wenchang, Hainan. This launch not only marked the official debut of the Long March 12 rocket, but it also attracted significant attention due to its breakthrough new technologies and the use of coal-based aerospace kerosene for the first time. This historic moment not only made the dream of using \"coal\" as fuel for the Long March rockets a reality, but it also injected new momentum into the future development of China’s space program. The Long March 12 carrier rocket is an important member of China’s new generation of carrier rockets, and it is also one of the carrier rockets with the greatest payload capacity in China at present. It has a total length of about 62 meters and features a two-stage design, with technical advantages such as a large diameter, high carrying capacity, and high efficiency. During this launch mission, the Long March 12 rocket successfully placed the Satellite Internet Technology Test Satellite and the Technology Test Satellite 03 into their intended orbits, resulting in a complete success for the launch mission. However, the success of the Long March 12 rocket lies not only in its strong payload capacity but also in the application of breakthrough new technologies. According to China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation, during the development of the Long March 12 rocket, a range of new technologies, materials, and manufacturing processes were employed, enabling a series of firsts in China such as health diagnosis and management systems, restraint-release mechanisms, cold helium pressurization, aluminum-lithium alloy storage tanks, and fully automated, unattended operations. The successful application of these new technologies has not only improved the performance and reliability of rockets but also laid a solid foundation for the future development of China’s space industry.
