What are the differences in the applications of composite plates produced by explosive welding as specified in NB/T47002 and those produced by rolling compounding? Can rolling compounding be used as a substitute for explosive welding?
Composite plates produced by explosion welding are typically used in applications that require high strength and corrosion resistance, such as in the petroleum and chemical industries. Composite plates produced by rolling compounding are more commonly used in structural components and load-bearing parts due to their high production efficiency and low cost. Rolled composite materials can replace explosively welded composite plates in some applications, but they may not be a complete substitute in environments that require extreme strength and corrosion resistance. Specific applications require comprehensive consideration of factors such as the operating environment, pressure, and temperature. .
5.3 of 150.2-2024 doesn’t matter for either one. As long as it is level 1 or 2. (Requirement 4.4.3 of 150.1-2011 states that composite allowable stress is applicable only to B2; in the 2024 version, composite allowable stress is applicable to B2, R2, and grades above.) According to 5.3.2.2 of 151-2014, the tube sheet must be of grade B1. (But in the draft for feedback, either one is fine as long as it’s level 1)
Since rolled composite sheets have been standardized, they can be used. However, in practical engineering applications, explosive bonding is still the preferred method, as it offers high bond strength (the bond strength of stainless steel composite sheets is generally greater than 350 MPa), few restrictions regarding material and thickness combinations, and no limit on the number of sheets used (all are manufactured as single pieces). Rolling compounding: Thin sheets offer significant price advantages, have relatively long lengths, and short delivery times for large quantities (the entire process takes place indoors, so it is not affected by weather conditions); it’s best if the specifications are uniform. The quantity is too small, making it difficult to work with (in tandem rolling, one pass results in two identical pieces).
