Let me share my experience. Our heat exchangers are generally divided into the material side and the heat exchange medium side. The causes of scaling on the material side are mostly related to its inherent properties. Such as: physical viscosity, fluidity, tendency to polymerize or solidify, whether the materials coming from upstream have been filtered, and so on. If the heat exchange medium side is water (in the case of a cooling heat exchanger), the cause of scaling may be the precipitation and accumulation of calcium and magnesium ions in the water, or salts formed by those ions. Additionally, if the inner wall of the heat exchanger used is not smooth and has small burrs or protruding metal parts, that could also be a problem.
