I would like to ask everyone: stick to shell-and-tube heat exchangers with an outer diameter of less than 426 and an inner diameter of over 500. The shell side is exposed to 300-degree steam, while the tube side contains water at temperatures below 100 degrees. What are the material choices for the various components of this type of heat exchanger? Newcomers to this field, please feel free to give me advice. Thank you all!
Steel plate: Q254R. Steel pipe: 20. Tube sheet: 16MnII is sufficient
Carbon steel is completely fine; if the pressure isn’t high, sheet metal can also be used for the tube sheet, and there’s no need to use forgings.
If the water quality is fine, Q345R plates and 16Mn forgings will suffice; for heat exchange tubes, 20 steel should be used. No problem.
Economical carbon steel can meet the requirements; a larger corrosion allowance should be used. Pipe material: 20#, 16Mn; Plate material: Q245R, Q345R; Forged parts: 20II, 16MnII; Others: Q235B
There are many materials to choose from, but the question posed by the original poster is too vague; it also depends on what factors need to be taken into consideration – cost-effectiveness? Safety? Or lifespan?
The shell is made of Q345R; the heat exchange tubes are type 20, while the tube sheet can be either Q345R or type 20, with 16Mn forgings being an alternative option. The requirements for this heat exchanger are not stringent.
