I’m a beginner when it comes to heat exchangers. I have an experimental project for which I plan to use a heat exchanger, with the following basic parameters: Hot fluid: 1.0 MPa, saturated steam, flow rate of 2 t/h; Cold fluid: Ordinary seawater, with a maximum flow rate of 120 m3/h; inlet temperature of 30°C, outlet temperature of 42°C. Heat exchange tube material: Titanium tube TA2 ; Tube sheet: titanium-steel composite plate; shell: carbon steel ; One manufacturer provided a heat exchange area of 50㎡, while another gave 7㎡. Why do different manufacturers calculate different heat exchange areas for the same parameter? It is possible that the heat from the saturated steam is insufficient; in such cases, the seawater outlet temperature can be reduced appropriately.

It seems that the calculations should yield the same results, yet the answers vary greatly. Is it due to differences within the shell-and-tube heat exchangers, or are it different calculation formulas and software?
I calculated it based on your temperature, heat transfer coefficient, and flow rate! It’s not being sprayed randomly!
I know you calculated it, which is why I’m wondering: among 50 square meters, 25 square meters, and 7 square meters, which area should be chosen? Because when buying a heat exchanger, cost also needs to be taken into consideration. I think that those with a larger heat exchange area will definitely have a higher price, while those with a smaller area are cheaper; however, it’s not clear whether they will meet my operational requirements. I’m not quite sure, that’s why I’m asking.
If all can meet the usage requirements, then the decision will be based on price;

Could it be that 50 square units corresponds to the tubular type, while 7 square units corresponds to the plate type?

These figures of “50 square meters, 25 square meters” are unreliable and misleading; there is a multiple-fold error in the area values.
Actually, when I sent the inquiry to the manufacturer, I specified that it was a shell-and-tube heat exchanger, and the material parameters I provided also referred to a shell-and-tube type; therefore, it should all refer to a shell-and-tube heat exchanger.
