Leak detection of U-shaped heat exchange tubes

This post was last edited by Monchi D-Luffy on 2018-4-10 at 08:24. Our factory is planning to use U-tube heat exchangers; currently, the tubes are bent manually. After bending, we want to check for leaks in those U-tubes. I would like to ask what methods or testing instruments can be used for this purpose. Thank you. I’m not referring to leak testing of the entire heat exchanger, but rather of individual U-tubes. How should leak testing be carried out in that case? The tubes we use are T2M copper tubes, which are quite flexible.
Special tooling will be needed for this, I guess.
The tooling is in place; water is injected into the shell side, and any leaks can be detected
If it is before installation, the U-tube can undergo a hydraulic test on a single unit or offline eddy current testing, while the bent sections can be tested using penetrant testing
