What materials are generally used for heat exchanger tubes in refineries? How can the operating pressure of a heat exchanger tube bundle be estimated by measuring its outer diameter or thickness?
The selection of materials is determined based on a series of factors such as the medium, operating pressure, operating temperature, and corrosion resistance. Typically, the material used for the tube bundle, its thickness, the heat exchange area, the welding method, and the treatment methods are all decided as part of this process
There are many materials available for the tube bundles in refinery heat exchangers. For applications where the corrosivity of the medium is not high, 10# steel can be used; for heat exchange with steam, 20# steel can be employed. For materials in contact with corrosive media, 304, 316L, titanium, and other materials can be chosen. :lol
