Which is more suitable for reforming units, plate exchangers or coiled tube exchangers?
Coiled tubes are sensitive to dirt; plate exchangers are sensitive to dirt and high pressure
Does it even need to be asked? It’s of course a coiled tube heat exchanger, but it’s expensive.
The pressure and temperature levels in plate exchangers are heavily restricted in the chemical industry; due to their structural characteristics, neither the temperature nor the pressure can be very high. Additionally, although plate exchangers are relatively easy to clean, if the fluid tends to cause deposits or similar issues, it becomes a problem whether they can be cleaned frequently from a practical standpoint
