:), what is the difference between using baffles and not using them? Our exchanger has a diameter of 1800; there are 410 tubes with a diameter of 63 each. The waste gas flows through the tube side at 100 degrees, while cooling water flows through the shell side. No baffle plates have been installed; it’s unknown how many should be used, what the spacing between them should be, and what the impact of their installation will be.
Please share some suggestions; I hope the heat exchange and cooling performance can be improved. Thank you all for the suggestions. . .
Baffles are designed to reduce the flow velocity of the cooling water in the shell side, minimize short-circuiting of the cooling water, and improve the heat exchange efficiency of the heat exchanger; they certainly play a significant role. However, the placement of baffles is determined through calculations, rather than being added arbitrarily
There must be some positive effects; otherwise, what’s the point of installing it? It only adds resistance and wastes materials.
The question of whether to install baffle plates needs to be considered from both process and equipment perspectives. Some fluid calculations are required in terms of the process, and equipment strength checks are also necessary for the equipment itself
It is necessary to consider whether the head of the water supply pump is sufficient; if there are no issues, the length of the heat exchange tubes should be 6–9 meters. Initially, it is recommended to use 4 semi-circular baffle plates, with this choice being based on experience and for reference only
