When the distillation column reboiler is not in use for an extended period, the valve for the material flow in the tube side is closed, and the valve for the steam flow on the shell side is also closed. Will corrosion occur if the steam in the shell side is stopped? Is nitrogen purging and pressure holding required?
A blind flange should be installed after the inlet valve and before the outlet valve, and protecting it with a slight positive nitrogen pressure is the most appropriate approach.
Replacement is required; water and materials must be drained, with nitrogen protection in place
