A plate heat exchanger is a new type of efficient heat exchanger made by stacking a series of metal plates with a certain corrugated shape. It features a compact structure, small footprint, high heat exchange efficiency, flexible and convenient operation, wide range of applications, low heat loss, as well as easy installation and cleaning. It is mainly composed of a frame, a pressing plate, clamping bolts, plates, and gaskets. Below, the editor will explain in detail the functions of each component of the plate heat exchanger. 1. The frame is generally made of carbon steel plates; in special cases, stainless steel or stainless steel-clad materials can also be used. It is mainly used to support the plates of plate heat exchangers, facilitating their disassembly, cleaning, assembly, etc. 2. Compression plates: There are two types of compression plates, a fixed compression plate and a movable compression plate. It mainly serves to clamp and press all the heat transfer plates together, ensuring that the fluid medium does not leak. 3. Clamping bolts: These bolts are primarily used to secure the fixed compression plate and the movable compression plate. Clamping bolts usually have double-threaded ends; when compressing the plate bundle, these bolts should be tightened evenly and symmetrically to maintain the parallel alignment of the plates as well as uniform torque. 4. Gasket seals mainly serve to provide sealing between the heat transfer plates. The materials commonly used include nitrile rubber, EPDM rubber, fluororubber, etc.; different gasket materials are selected depending on the heat exchange medium. 5. The plates are the heat transfer elements of plate heat exchangers. The corrugation patterns include herringbone corrugations and straight corrugations. Depending on the fluid medium and the operating conditions of heat exchange, the material of the plates varies; stainless steel, titanium, SMO254, etc., are commonly used.
