In the HTRI operating manual, it is stated that \"when the temperature difference between the shell and the tubes exceeds 30 degrees, or when the temperature difference between the cold fluid inlet and the hot fluid inlet exceeds 110 degrees, a floating-head heat exchanger should be used.\" Here, the \"temperature difference between the shell and the tubes\" refers to the difference between two of the temperatures: hot inlet, hot outlet, cold inlet, or cold outlet
