The loop for finding the fin efficiency (and the equivalent diameter) of finned tubes with shellside condensation did not converge. Use results with caution. As mentioned above, how should optimization be approached when this problem occurs? Is there a master here?

This affects the fin efficiency, but in fact it’s a good thing – the efficiency increases. But HTRI will not handle (calculate) this problem; instead, it asks you what to do You must use HTRI to fake it by reducing the moisture content of the flue gas—of course, this is an anti-scientific and deceptive trick. What’s there to worry about with a little condensation? When designing the equipment, it’s sufficient to take into account the issues related to the drainage of condensate water. I’m really impressed by HTRI!!! I would never use HTRI to design a system for such conditions.

The recovery of heat from flue gas through cooling is related to whether condensation water appears or not, and this constitutes the \"core issue\" of flue gas heat exchangers: 1. If condensation water appears, the heat recovered increases significantly due to the heat of condensation, which is a positive thing; 2. If condensation occurs, the heat transfer coefficient increases significantly due to the wet surface of the fins, which is a good thing ; 3. If condensate forms, the flue gas containing acidic gases will produce acid, which will corrode the heat exchanger – a negative outcome ; 4. If condensate water appears, the heat exchanger must have a mechanism for draining it; otherwise, it will cause problems ; For all this, HTRI is too weak. Of course, I’m using Vivid Software’s box heat exchanger software, which can handle all these problems. Special note: If condensate water forms and causes acid to corrode the heat exchanger, the material choice for the heat exchanger becomes a very important issue.
Send out the file and take a look. Generally, there’s no need to suspect a problem with the software
