I have another question for the teachers: welding of 12Mpa pipes and fittings. How small can the pipe diameter be? There is not much difference between butt welding and plug welding. Some people say that butt welding and plug welding are not considered for diameters below 14 mm, as the pipe diameter is small enough. Please, teachers, answer. Thank you!
Different processes, different connection methods
With a pressure of 12 Mpa, it belongs to high-pressure pipelines, requiring single-sided welding with double-sided formation or full penetration welding. The cross-section of the weld formed by socket welding is much smaller than that of a butt weld; the strength of such a weld is lower than that of a butt weld, resulting in a relatively lower load-carrying capacity. Moreover, socket joints tend to form stress concentration areas, which are not allowed in the welding of high-pressure vessels or pipelines.
