Serrated chains are prone to sand holes during casting due to molding sand or improper handling； Factors such as poor exhaust and excessive moisture can easily lead to the formation of pores. In addition, defects such as porosity, segregation, and cracks are also the direct causes of quenching cracks. Next, let’s take a closer look at the reasons why toothed chains cause defects. (1) The sprocket hubs made of 2H steel for toothed chains should be designed to avoid having a value within the D range. (2) In 2H steel material for toothed chains, the alloying element most prone to exceeding the specified limits is B; controlling the content of B can effectively prevent cracks from forming in the chain sprockets. (3) The design structure of the sprocket for toothed chains should not be complex; structural abrupt changes should be reduced or smooth transitions should be employed. (4) For toothed chains that are prone to cracking, the sprocket hubs can be subjected to pre-cooling quenching, or the number of agitator pumps in use can be reduced. (5) The toothed chain is subjected to a sub-temperature quenching process slightly below Ac, which can effectively prevent crack formation.
