In industrial applications where corrosive liquids need to be tested, the 3051 pressure transmitter must use an isolation diaphragm to prevent the corrosive liquid from reacting with the interior of the transmitter. So, what are the isolation materials available, and how should we choose them? Below, we will provide a detailed introduction to the properties and characteristics of several commonly used types of isolation diaphragms. Regarding the diaphragm material for Rosemount 3051 pressure transmitters, the common options include 316L SS, Hastelloy C-276, Monel alloy, and tantalum. They share one common property: corrosion resistance. 316LSS is an austenitic stainless steel whose chemical composition mainly includes carbon, sulfur, manganese, phosphorus, chromium, nickel, molybdenum, etc ; Hastelloy C-276 is a nickel-chromium alloy containing tungsten, with extremely low levels of silicon and carbon ; Monel alloy is an alloy composed of main elements such as nickel, copper, iron, and manganese ; Tantalum is a black-gray super-Monel alloy transition metal. Their chemical elements all contain nickel, chromium, and manganese. The manganese and chromium contents in the alloy enable it to resist chloride ion corrosion, and it is not prone to corrosion in acidic chloride solutions. Among them, tantalum possesses extremely high corrosion resistance and does not react with hydrochloric acid, concentrated nitric acid, or aqua regia. The diaphragm material of the Rosemount 3051 pressure transmitter has good corrosion resistance. Since tantalum is a rare earth mineral, it is expensive. When selecting diaphragm membranes, not only must they have excellent corrosion resistance, but the cost of the material also needs to be taken into consideration. Alloys such as 316LSS, Hastelloy C-276, Monel alloy, and tantalum have different prices; among them, 316LSS is relatively inexpensive, so it is generally the choice preferred. Moreover, the alloy materials chosen vary depending on the different structures of a given transmitter; for specific details, please consult our online customer service staff.
