This is horizontal centrifugal casting, used for casting barrel-shaped or tubular castings with relatively small diameters； There is also vertical centrifugal casting, which allows for the production of circular castings with very large diameters; the machinery used in this process is quite impressive, and the diameter of the castings can exceed 1 meter. Another advantage of centrifugal casting is that no investment mold is required, but this same feature prevents the production of complex castings.

My father used to work at a machinery factory belonging to the Ministry of Railways, in Fengtai. As a child, I saw the continuous casting and centrifugal casting machinery there. That thing on the outer edge of the train wheel is the result of vertical centrifugal casting.
