After the multi-stage pump was sent back to the factory for repair and then returned to the site for installation, there was high resistance when trying to rotate the pump shaft before starting it up after the installation was complete. After measuring the total length of the coupling, the mechanic tapped on the shaft extending from the pump side to make the pump shaft extend further; this made it easier to turn the pump later. Could someone please explain what’s going on here?
During assembly, the clearance between the pump-side bearing and the bearing cover side is too small

This act of knocking is purely a barbaric installation. In addition to alignment requirements, couplings should also have requirements regarding the clearance at both shaft ends. Since the equipment experiences temperature changes during operation, and the metal structure changes lead to variations in the shaft end clearance, it is necessary to leave a certain amount of clearance as required. Regarding the aforementioned issue, the shaft end gland clearance should be adjusted using shaft end sealing gaskets. For reference.
