(CNOOC Engineering) was fully assembled in Tianjin and entered the phase of system testing. This marks the successful completion of the construction of China’s first ultra-deepwater Christmas tree designed for depths of up to 2,000 meters. According to Zhang Fei, deputy general manager of CNOOC Engineering’s Special Equipment Division, this is the first deep-water subsea tree in China to be independently developed and equipped with a recyclable metering and control module (FCM). It can operate at a maximum depth of 2,000 meters, with a rated operating pressure of 10,000 psi; its minimum operating temperature is -46°C, and its design life is 30 years. It represents the subsea tree with the greatest depth capability, highest pressure rating, and widest temperature range available in China at present. Compared to shallow-water production trees, deep-water production trees are larger in size and weight, have more control and management interfaces, resulting in more complex systems. They present greater challenges in development, higher technical barriers, and higher investment costs; only a few companies in the world **possess the key core technologies for them. “Through multidisciplinary innovative research and other approaches, the project team overcame key technical challenges such as the layout and system analysis of 2000-meter-depth ultra-deepwater production trees, as well as the installation and positioning techniques for FCM modules. ”Liu Haijun, chief engineer at the Underwater Assembly and Integration Center of CNOOC Engineering’s Special Equipment Branch, said. During the final assembly process, the project team implemented comprehensive quality control throughout the process and closely monitored the cleanliness of the hydraulic channels, completing the installation of the hydraulic components for the underwater production system control module ahead of schedule. They have also developed new welding processes, optimized quality inspection techniques, and strengthened the control of prefabrication dimensions for the bottom structural framework, achieving a verticality error of within 0.5 degrees, thus fully meeting the precision requirements for underwater production tree integration.
