After successfully using 3D modeling technology to simulate the processing of reactor heads and achieving remarkable results, the CNC team utilized newly acquired intelligent handheld 3D laser scanners to complete the scanning and modeling of the rough prototypes for two polymerization reactor heads with high quality and efficiency. Once again, they demonstrated their expertise in applying intelligent technologies. The lower head blank for this project has a complex structure, and high precision in processing is required. The CNC team made full use of the efficient and precise capabilities of the intelligent handheld 3D laser scanner; by conducting comprehensive scans, they were able to quickly obtain high-precision 3D data of the blank’s surface, thereby creating a complete digital model. At the same time, technicians conducted a comparative analysis between the digital model and the theoretical model, providing reliable data support for accurate alignment prior to CNC lathe machining. At present, the lower end caps of the two reactors have been successfully turned, with all dimensions and geometric tolerances strictly meeting the technical requirements specified in the drawings; the use of intelligence to improve quality has yielded significant results. This achievement is not only another successful application of intelligent technologies and equipment by the CNC team, but also a significant step toward achieving Nanjing Company’s goals of reducing costs and increasing efficiency. In the past, the scanning and modeling of complex components like these often relied on external vendors, which was costly and carried a risk of technical leakage. Today, the teams have mastered high-precision blank scanning and modeling techniques on their own, which reduces reliance on external services. By ensuring control over the key technical aspects, it also lowers procurement costs, thereby delivering the dual benefits of economic savings and technological advancement that come from having such capabilities in-house. The successful application of this 3D scanning technology not only helped to overcome difficult processing challenges, ensuring on-time production and saving significant amounts of money, but it also provided the Nanjing company with valuable technical experience and data resources for handling more complex workpieces and carrying out reverse engineering of new products in the future. At the same time, as new technologies are put into use, team members strive to learn more about them, and their operational skills as well as their data analysis capabilities improve rapidly.
