Construction of the floating solar project in Indonesia undertaken by a Chinese company has begun. The 60-megawatt floating solar project in Saguling, Indonesia, carried out by China Energy Engineering Group’s Gezhouba Corporation, saw its construction kick off on September 25, 2025; this marks the official start of work on this green energy project, which is expected to generate 129 million kWh of electricity per year. It is understood that this project is the first to be constructed under Indonesia’s new electricity plan (2025–2034), and it is located in the Saguling Dam reservoir area in Bandung, West Java Province, Indonesia. The project utilizes floating photovoltaic technology, with solar panels installed on floating structures on the water surface. Compared to traditional ground-based photovoltaic power plants, this approach not only saves land resources but also reduces water evaporation, suppresses algae growth, and improves power generation efficiency. The project will involve the construction of a 60-megawatt floating photovoltaic power plant on water, a 150-kilovolt step-up substation, an 8.5-kilometer long 150-kilovolt double-circuit transmission line on the same tower, and a 150-kilovolt switchyard. Upon completion, the project will save 56,000 tons of standard coal per year and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 149,000 tons. During the project construction period, it is expected to create over 1,600 direct and indirect jobs locally, thereby significantly boosting the regional economic and social development.
