Recently, a supervisor came for an inspection and found that the outer walls of the 100,000-cubic-meter crude oil storage tanks, as well as the surfaces of their external floating roofs, were severely corroded. He ordered that measures be taken to address this issue. However, since dozens of these tanks are almost completely full of oil, there is no effective solution. For safety reasons, it is not possible to use electric grinding machines for rust removal, especially on areas such as floating roofs and floating tanks. I’ve heard that high-pressure jet cleaning can be used for rust removal, but it is also rarely utilized these days. I was wondering if any of you have any good techniques; please advise. Thank you
One shouldn’t take reckless risks in carrying out operations just to meet inspection requirements; if this problem is to be completely resolved, then anti-corrosion work should be done after the tank has been emptied!
We use manual rust removal here. The outer surface is manually derusted; cleaning the tank isn’t necessary, right?
