Hazardous chemicals refer to chemicals that can act on the environment, materials, or the bodies of animals (or plants), causing damage to those organisms or changes in their functions, degradation or alteration of materials, and pollution of the environment. Hazardous chemicals can be divided into eight categories: (1) Explosives ; (2) Compressed gases and liquefied gases ; (3) Oxidant ; (4) Spontaneously combustible items ; (5) Water-burning substances ; (6) Flammable materials ; (7) Toxic chemicals and corrosive chemicals ; (8) Radioactive materials. Storage arrangements and storage quantity limits (1) The storage arrangements for chemical hazards depend on the classification and sub-category of the chemicals, the type of containers used, the storage method, and fire safety requirements. (2) The storage quantities and arrangements are shown in Table 1. Table 1 Storage Categories: Open-air storage, Isolated storage, Separated storage, Distinct storage. Storage requirements: Average storage amount per unit area, t/m2 – 1.0~1.5, 0.5, 0.7, 0.7. Maximum storage amount in a single storage area, t – 2000~2400, 200~300, 200~300, 400~600. Distance between stacks, m – 2.0~2.5, 0.3~0.5, 0.3~0.5, 0.3~0.5. Width of aisles, m – 4~6, 1~2, 1~2, 5. Width from walls, m – 2.0~2.5, 0.3~0.5, 0.3~0.5, 0.3~0.5. Distance from prohibited substances, m – 10; storage in the same warehouse is not allowed. Storage in the same warehouse is not allowed either; the distance should be 7~10 meters. (3) Chemical hazardous materials that can cause combustion, explosion, or chemical reactions leading to the release of toxic gases when exposed to fire, heat, or moisture must not be stored in open areas or in buildings that are damp or flooded. (4) Chemical hazards that can undergo chemical reactions in response to sunlight, resulting in combustion, explosion, decomposition, combination, or the production of toxic gases, should be stored in Class I buildings. Its packaging should be protected from light. (5)**These items must not be stored together with other types of goods; they need to be stored separately and in limited quantities. Warehouses for storing them should not be located in towns, and they must also maintain a certain safety distance from surrounding buildings, traffic routes, and power transmission lines. (6) Compressed gases and liquefied gases must be stored separately from **substances, oxidizing agents, flammable materials, self-igniting materials, and corrosive substances. Flammable gases must not be stored together with oxidizing gases or highly toxic gases ; Oxygen must not be stored mixed with oils and fats. Containers used to hold liquefied gases, which are considered pressure vessels, must be equipped with pressure gauges, safety valves, and emergency shut-off devices; they also require regular inspection, and overfilling is not permitted. (7) Flammable liquids, moisture-sensitive flammable materials, and flammable solids shall not be stored together with oxidizers; reducing oxidizers should be stored separately. (8) Toxic substances should be stored in a cool, well-ventilated, and dry place; they must not be kept outdoors or in proximity to acidic substances. (9) For corrosive substances, the packaging must be airtight to prevent leakage; it is strictly prohibited to store them together with liquefied gases and other items.
