The image below shows a turbine impeller used in chemical processing plants; over time, rust can accumulate on it, which affects the safe operation of the turbine. It is difficult to remove this rust using physical methods. However, chemical methods yield very good removal results.
Generally, at high temperatures, the fouling above the junctions is mostly in the form of silicate and sulfate deposits; acidic liquids are used for cleaning, with appropriate amounts of corrosion inhibitors added to prevent acid from corroding the metals.
