The image below shows a newly built production facility in the petrochemical industry; more than a year after it began operation, the anti-corrosion coating on its steel structure was damaged and became ineffective. Analysis confirms that it was caused by the lack of project process management or loss of control over process management throughout the anti-corrosion project. The main reasons are as follows: first, the paint selected was the one that won the bid at a low price, and its film is brittle with poor resistance to aging ; Second, the construction unit failed to carry out painting as required, such as inadequate treatment of the metal surface, failure to apply an undercoat, or insufficient coating thickness. The premature failure of the anti-corrosion coating is caused by the influence of these combined factors. Therefore, as equipment managers and engineering technicians, we must adhere to ethical standards and do our work with integrity.

I was thinking: could we apply a layer of putty similar to the one used on cars onto the metal surface, and then paint it to prevent corrosion? Would that be better?
