The results of accelerated testing on coatings do not necessarily match exactly those obtained from exposure in the natural atmospheric environment or from actual use; therefore, when conducting quality inspections for industrial anti-corrosion coatings, it is advisable to carry out tests under natural environmental conditions. When conducting natural environment tests, it is necessary to pay attention not only to the accuracy of the test results but also to the correlation between the results of natural environment tests and those of artificial accelerated tests. Developing reliable acceleration test methods and exploring corrosion prevention mechanisms provides a basis for improving the quality of anti-corrosion coatings. Natural environment testing includes three aspects: outdoor atmospheric exposure testing, exposure under shelters and in warehouses, as well as storage under shelters and in warehouses. Among these, outdoor atmospheric exposure testing is used quite frequently in the quality inspection of anti-corrosion coatings. The outdoor atmospheric exposure test involves exposing painted samples directly to the outdoor atmosphere, where they are subjected to the combined effects of various atmospheric factors. Through periodic visual inspections as well as tests on other physical, mechanical, or chemical properties, the weather resistance of the coating film can be evaluated. This test can also be compared with artificial acceleration tests in order to determine the relationship between the two.
