Experts say that when stainless steel comes into contact with carbon steel, a carburization reaction occurs; after learning about it, it becomes easier to understand. What is not understood is why standard specifications such as NB/T47008~11 and NB/T47015 – welding procedures for pressure vessels, as well as JB/T4709 – welding procedures for steel pressure vessels – all mention welding of dissimilar steels, and why explosive cladding plates are so widely used? What is the reason?

Welding is possible, but specific requirements exist regarding the welding process and welding materials. When welding different types of steel together, cracking and corrosion can occur easily, as different steel grades have varying rates of contraction as well as different corrosion rates. Generally, welding different types of steel together is not recommended
It involves the welding of dissimilar steels and the widespread use of explosive bonding sheets; the key consideration is the environment in which they will be used. For example, dissimilar welded metals should not be used in the same liquid, as this can lead to galvanic corrosion and similar issues.
Mainly, different application scenarios result in different requirements.
Everything can be welded; otherwise, could dissimilar steels only be connected using flanges? The key is to control the welding process; the best approach is to fabricate dissimilar steel weldments in the workshop, trying to avoid welding on-site as much as possible.
