Questions about tank foundations

Experts: I’m confused about when a pressure vessel should use a pure concrete foundation and when soil should be filled inside it. Here are two pictures.

Let me share my opinions: Material selection – (1) The backfill soil used for the packing layer must not be silt, farmland soil, expansive soil, frozen soil, or soil containing more than 5% organic impurities. The backfill soil should have an optimal moisture content, and it must be compacted in layers; the compaction coefficient should be no less than 97%. (2) For the sand cushion, medium-coarse sand with a hard texture is preferred, or a sand-gravel mixture with a maximum particle size of 20 mm can also be used. Fine sand should not be used, nor should silt or frozen sand; it must not contain organic impurities such as grass roots, and its clay content must not exceed 5%. (3) The asphalt-sand insulation layer should be prepared using medium sand, with a clay content of no more than 5%. For the asphalt material used in the insulating layer of bituminous sand, when the temperature of the medium inside the tank is below 80°C, No. 60 road petroleum asphalt or No. 30 construction petroleum asphalt is recommended; when the temperature of the medium inside the tank is equal to or above 80°C, No. 30 construction petroleum asphalt is preferred.

We have had this doubt as well; for tanks of roughly the same size, some are cast in concrete directly, while others have concrete poured around them with filler placed in the middle. Confused
The priority is to save materials; it’s sufficient as long as it meets the needs. Special designs are required for those with special needs.
Is there also pure concrete pouring? I specifically checked the standards, and there are no detailed description or acceptance criteria for concrete structures of this kind; this is related to the corrosion issue of the base slab. If it is pure concrete, the likelihood of corrosion of the base plate is much lower than when it is in contact with soil.
Could you share the photo? With this type of tank, there’s no need to worry about corrosion of the tank bottom plate. Not to mention anything about cathodic protection. It would be better if there are details on the construction layer by layer.
