For buried sewage pipes in the industrial sector, if their inner walls are not corrosion-resistant, perforations can occur after about 1 year in some cases; the average service life is around 5 years (during which time leaks frequently occur and require repairs). A metal nanopolymer coating is used to provide corrosion protection for 5,000 meters of pipes with a diameter of 820 in just one application; it has been in use for 15 years now without any pipe leaks.
