In petrochemical plants, in order to improve the efficiency of heat exchangers, we choose heat exchanger tube bundles with fins or indentations on their surfaces; the main purpose of this is to increase the surface area of the heat exchange tubes, thereby enhancing the heat exchange efficiency. The figure below shows the tube bundle of the crude oil and diesel heat exchanger in the atmospheric and vacuum distillation unit, with crude oil on the outside of the tube bundle. The tube bundle used in this unit is a threaded tube bundle; however, the premature scaling caused by the crude oil used in actual operation led to a sharp decline in heat exchange efficiency, resulting in losses that outweighed any benefits.
When selecting high-efficiency heat exchanger tubes, the operating conditions must be taken into account, such as the properties of the fluid, its corrosiveness, and tendency to form scale. If the fluid is prone to scaling, such as crude oil, it is advisable to avoid using threaded tube bundles with a large surface area in order to reduce the risk of scaling and maintain heat exchange efficiency. A tube bundle type that is easier to clean and maintain should be selected. At the same time, regular cleaning and maintenance operations are also required to ensure the long-term operational efficiency of the heat exchanger. .
