Atmospheric pressure storage tanks typically have a flat bottom, which is in direct contact with the civil engineering foundation and is exposed to the atmospheric environment. Affected by external rainwater and moisture, water vapor seeps into the area beneath the entire tank bottom through the gaps between the bottom edge plate and the foundation, creating a humid and aerobic environment under the bottom plate. Due to changes in ambient temperature and liquid level inside the tank, the bottom plate of the storage tank expands and contracts radially. Since the edge plates are welded to the bottom plate, they cannot expand outward; as a result, deformation occurs at those edge plates. When the tank is empty, it returns to its original shape, but the edge plates bend upward due to plastic deformation, which allows water, steam, and corrosive substances to penetrate and cause corrosion beneath the bottom plate.
