Pipeline material grade table for chlorine-containing service conditions

1. CL1A grade: Carbon steel with corrosion protection margin (economical version). Application areas: Circulating cooling water, deionized water, non-oxidizing neutral salt solutions. Corrosion protection logic: Compensate for uniform corrosion by increasing the corrosion allowance (C.A.). Restrictions: It must not be used in acidic environments to prevent localized pitting and perforation. 2. CL1S grade: 316L austenitic stainless steel. Material requirement: The carbon content must be < 0.03% to prevent intergranular corrosion after welding. Key constraint: The operating temperature is recommended to be kept below 60°C. Above this temperature, the risk of **stress corrosion cracking (SCC)** in 316L in the presence of chloride ions increases significantly. Surface treatment: Acid washing and passivation must be carried out after welding to thoroughly remove the chromium-deficient layer in the heat-affected zone. 3. CL3D grade: 2205 duplex stainless steel (highly recommended). Technical advantages: ferrite and austenite each account for about 50%, and its PREN (pitting resistance equivalent) is > 35.
