The corrosion resistance of Cr5Mo and 304 stainless steel depends on the specific environment. The two are designed for different purposes. It cannot be simply said who is more corrosion-resistant. In high-temperature oxidizing environments (such as above 600°C) and sulfur-containing corrosive media, Cr5Mo is more resistant to corrosion. Cr5Mo is a chromium-molybdenum alloy steel containing 4.00%~6.00% chromium and 0.45%~0.65% molybdenum. It has excellent oxidation resistance and resistance to high-temperature sulfur corrosion. It is suitable for high-temperature furnace tubes of ≤600°C, power station boiler superheaters, etc. The chromium oxide film formed at high temperatures is stable and can effectively resist material degradation caused by long-term thermal exposure. 304 stainless steel is more resistant to corrosion in oxidizing acids, weak alkalis, water and food-grade environments at normal or low temperatures. 304 stainless steel is an austenitic stainless steel containing 18% chromium and 8% nickel. It can form a dense Cr₂O₃ passivation film and resist corrosion from atmosphere, water, organic acids and other media. It is widely used in food equipment, chemical containers, building decoration and other fields. However, pitting corrosion or stress corrosion cracking is prone to occur in environments containing chloride ions (such as seawater).
