Sinopec recommends the use of composite steel plates for corrosion protection when processing high-sulfur crude oil, as they offer both corrosion resistance and cost-effectiveness, enabling effective mitigation of the equipment corrosion challenges posed by such crude oil. In key areas such as the top of the atmospheric pressure tower, it is recommended to use 20R+0Cr13 composite plates for constructing the shells (especially in the area of the top five trays). This material performs well under the anti-corrosion conditions of the \"one removal and four injections\" process, and can effectively resist corrosion in an HCl-H₂S-H₂O environment. For applications with a higher risk of corrosion, it is recommended to use higher-grade composite materials, such as composite plates made of super-austenitic stainless steel UNS N08367 or alloy 625, for the top cylinders and heads; these materials offer greater resistance to corrosion caused by hydrochloric acid and wet hydrogen sulfide. The stainless steel + CTS (super-high-performance corrosion and scorch resistance coating) technology allows the Cr₂O₃ layer to be thickened to 500 nm, significantly extending the service life of the trays in corrosive environments to 1–2 operating cycles. Furthermore, composite steel plates combine the mechanical properties of carbon steel substrates with the corrosion resistance of the coating layer, which not only reduces the manufacturing costs of equipment but also decreases reliance on scarce alloy resources, offering significant economic benefits.
