Given the operating conditions of the steel structures in gas stations, epoxy zinc-rich primers are a more suitable choice; inorganic zinc-rich primers can only be used in certain special situations. The reasons for this are as follows: First, they offer superior adaptability – they perform better in terms of resistance to deformation and vibration. The steel structures such as canopies and support columns in gas stations are constantly subjected to slight vibrations caused by vehicle traffic and equipment operation. The flexible coating of epoxy zinc-rich primers prevents cracks and peeling that can occur with inorganic zinc-rich primers due to minor deformations of the components, thus ensuring that a complete protective layer is maintained over time. It has a low level of construction difficulty and is suitable for on-site conditions. Given the limited construction conditions at gas stations, epoxy zinc-rich primers have less stringent requirements regarding substrate preparation as well as temperature and humidity; they can be applied by ordinary workers. This not only helps to shorten the construction time significantly but also avoids the problems of poor curing that can occur with inorganic zinc-rich primers when the construction environment does not meet the required standards. The supporting system is well-developed, offering better cost-performance. The conventional three-layer system consisting of an epoxy ferrochrome intermediate coat plus a polyurethane/fluorocarbon top coat is more than sufficient to meet the anti-corrosion requirements of outdoor areas in gas stations; the anti-corrosion lifespan can reach 10–15 years. The overall cost of materials and installation is much lower compared to inorganic zinc-rich primers, and it is also easier to carry out repairs for any local damage that may occur over time. II. Inorganic zinc-rich primers can be used in special scenarios. These primers are suitable only when there are steel structural components in the gas station that are exposed to high temperatures for extended periods, or when the location is in an area with severe salt spray corrosion along the coast and maintenance-free operation for over 20 years is required. However, it is essential to ensure that the steel surfaces are sandblasted to a Sa2.5 grade during application, and that weather-resistant topcoats are used in conjunction with them.
