Dear experts, could you please explain what is meant by the effective phase in Aspen simulations, and how to choose it during simulation? I hope someone with more experience can give me some advice. Thank you!
The effective phase refers to whether the bubble point and dew point of a mixture are in the liquid or gas phase, as well as the gas fraction between the bubble and dew points.
Where is such an option requirement? If it is a unit device used for simplifying calculations, then, based on common sense, when a liquid flows into a split device and is divided into two streams, the split device can be set to handle the liquid phase, thereby avoiding the need for calculations related to gas-liquid equilibrium

Thank you for your advice. “Effective phase” is a term I keep encountering when working with unit simulations; I haven’t quite understood it yet. In other words, selecting the effective phase based on the feed conditions allows us to set it for the unit simulation, which helps avoid unnecessary calculations and simplifies the process. Am I understanding this correctly?
Yes, it’s not always about simplifying calculations either; for example, if you determine that a gas-liquid-liquid phase will be present, then by manually setting up three-phase calculations, you’ll get much more accurate results
If both reactants are liquids and the product is a solid, how should one choose?
