There are two ways to create fills in the HaoChen CAD software: selecting objects and picking points. Picking points is the more commonly used method, as the area to be filled is often a closed area enclosed by multiple shapes. To create a fill using the object selection method, as long as the selected objects are the same as those used for island detection, the result of the filling will definitely be identical. However, when creating a fill using pick points, although the picked points only need to be within the filling area, if the boundaries of the fill are to be adjusted later, the location of these pick points will affect the outcome of the fill. I wonder if anyone has noticed this. Next, let’s take a look at how the position of the pick point during filling affects fill editing. In the diagram, the overlapping area of the two circles is marked with a red cross; this is the point that is selected when creating the fill. After creating the fill, when we adjust the radius or position of the circle, we can see that the fill does not always remain in the area where the two circles intersect; rather, it changes depending on the area in which the selection point is located. The fill will be in the area where the selection point is placed. From the above observations, we can see that when creating a fill using pick points, the location of these pick points is recorded as the reference point for the fill. When we adjust the boundaries, the fill will search for its range based on this point, which is also known as the hot spot of the fill. We rarely adjust the fill boundaries in this way, so we also seldom encounter such problems. Having understood this characteristic of the pickup points, we can deliberately select more suitable locations when filling. Even if we didn’t pay attention to the position of the pickup point during charging, once we adjust the associated boundary lines and the filling area moves to another location, we will know why and it won’t be surprising.
