I recently worked on the design of a reboiler at the bottom of a tower, but I couldn’t find any options for setting up the reboiler in EDR. In Aspen simulations, the temperature on the material side of the distillation column reboiler remains constant; only the vapor fraction changes. No such settings are available in the EDR design software (especially those related to material properties). I would like to ask the experts how to resolve this issue.
EDR software is a tool commonly used in heat exchanger design, but it does not directly support the design and simulation of reboilers. Generally speaking, the working principle of a reboiler differs from that of a normal heat exchanger in two main aspects: first, the operation of a reboiler requires energy consumption; second, its operation involves phase changes, whereas ordinary heat exchangers typically do not involve such phase changes. If you need to simulate the operation of a reboiler in EDR, one possible approach is to create your own custom operation model and then include the necessary property calculations and energy balance equations within that model. If you are not familiar with this method, you may need to find an experienced engineer or consult the technical support of EDR for help. Another possible approach is to use an advanced process simulation software called Aspen HYSYS. HYSYS supports the simulation of complex chemical processes, including reboilers and other types of separation equipment. Although the learning curve for this software might be steep, it is highly powerful and capable of meeting the needs of designing complex chemical processes. .
Thank you for your suggestion. I have been using Aspen-plus to simulate a reboiler recently, and the model has not yet been solved. Aspen-HYSYS is more or less the same as Aspen-plus
