At 10:20 on August 12, the startup of the 450 circulation pump marked a successful initial operation of the third-phase circulating water system; the maintenance work was completed 12 hours earlier than planned. To ensure the smooth implementation of the major maintenance, the Water Supply and Drainage Workshop began in May to confirm on multiple occasions various aspects related to the maintenance work, such as the timing for shutting down and restarting the third-phase circulating water system and the procurement of materials needed for the maintenance. The specific tasks for the maintenance were planned based on the scheduled shutdown times, and a detailed maintenance plan was developed. Due to the fact that the major maintenance work takes place in areas where welding and operations in confined spaces are involved, the workshop has repeatedly revised various safety measures and guidelines for carrying out the maintenance tasks efficiently and to a high standard, to ensure everything is done without any risks. To ensure the progress of the maintenance work plan, the Water Supply and Drainage Workshop strictly follows the maintenance schedule, carrying out shutdown procedures, liquid discharge, and process treatments in an organized and systematic manner to eliminate any potential risks. During this maintenance period, the water supply and drainage workshop faced significant challenges, as three circulating water systems stopped operating at the same time, resulting in simultaneous drainage. Given the current high environmental protection pressures, the 470 sewage pumping station strictly controls the amount of wastewater discharged; meeting environmental standards is a red line for the company that no one is allowed to cross. Under such circumstances, the water supply and drainage workshop takes multiple measures: operating at low liquid levels, scheduling drainage at off-peak times, and maintaining close communication and coordination between the circulating water team and the sewage treatment team to ensure compliance with environmental regulations regarding discharge levels, while also facilitating the smooth shutdown of the circulating water system in Phase 3. Early in the morning on August 6, the circulating water system of Phase 3 in the water supply and drainage workshop was shut down for maintenance as planned; 40 maintenance tasks were carried out sequentially, including the replacement of filter media and the cleaning of the tanks. The workshop made full use of the few days of downtime to repair and upgrade the inlet and outlet valves as well as the pumps in the circulating water system’s pump room; it also repaired and maintained the hydraulic check valves, fans, baffles in the circulating water tower, and air ducts. Additionally, the pool in the cooling tower was cleaned of sediment. With everyone in the water supply and drainage workshop working together in unity and with great effort, the maintenance work was carried out safely and smoothly. At 9 a.m. on August 11, all maintenance work on the third-phase circulating water system was completed, and water was started to be fed into the tower tank in preparation for commissioning. At 7 a.m. on the 12th, Jin Wenli, the workshop director, Qin Hao, the deputy director, and technician Gao Duan arrived at the 450 circulating water station on time. They emphasized the precautions to be taken before starting up the equipment, and instructed the operators there to check and confirm everything thoroughly. The successful commissioning of the circulating water system set a good precedent for the subsequent stages.
