And to ensure the safety and health of the life chain at its source, fertilizers have become a focus of attention. On August 31, a meeting to solicit opinions on standards was held in Hotan City, Xinjiang, by the National Technical Committee for Standardization of Fertilizers and Soil Conditioners. The Xinjiang Quality Inspection Institute and the Hotan Region Market Supervision Administration assisted in organizing this meeting. It is understood that there are some issues in the current fertilizer industry. For example, the raw materials used in fertilizer production, such as mineral materials as well as industrial and domestic waste, contain elements and their compounds like arsenic, cadmium, chromium, lead, and mercury. These heavy metals can pollute the soil, affect the growth and development of crops, impair the quality of agricultural products, and even pose hazards to humans and animals through the food chain ; The current standards for organic-inorganic compound fertilizers lack more stringent requirements, which hinders the encouragement and promotion of technological advancement and the upgrading of manufacturing equipment in enterprises. It also prevents improvements in product quality and recovery rates, and fails to provide an accurate and objective reflection of the overall improvement in China’s organic-inorganic fertilizer industry ; There are no standards for the determination of heavy metals in fertilizers... It is urgent to establish standards for measuring agricultural heavy metals in fertilizers and soil conditioners; moreover, improving industry technologies to drive progress in this sector also requires revisions to national standards. At the meeting, Shang Zhaocong, Secretary-General of the National Technical Committee for Fertilizer and Soil Conditioner Standardization, presided over the discussions on soliciting opinions for the revision of 11 national standards related to compound fertilizers, BB fertilizers, and mixed fertilizers. More than 120 members of the National Technical Committee for Fertilizer and Soil Conditioner Standardization who attended this meeting provided their suggestions regarding the revision of these 11 national standards. In line with industry needs and the plans for formulating and revising national standards issued by the Standardization Administration of China and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, entities such as Shanghai Research Institute of Chemical Industry Co., Ltd. have completed the formulation and revision of 11 chemical industry standards, including those for \"Compound Fertilizers\", \"Calcium Magnesium Phosphate Fertilizers\", \"Double Superphosphate\", \"Blended Fertilizers (BB Fertilizers)\\", \"Organic-Inorganic Compound Fertilizers\", \"Sulfur-Coated Urea\", \"Determination of Arsenic, Cadmium, Chromium, Lead, and Mercury in Fertilizers\", \"Determination of Arsenic, Cadmium, Chromium, Lead, and Mercury in Fertilizers and Soil Conditioners\", and \"Determination of Total Nickel, Total Cobalt, Total Selenium, Total Vanadium, Total Antimony, and Total Thallium in Fertilizers\". Additionally, two other standards were developed: \"Ammonium Polyphosphate for Fertilizer Use\" and \"Stable Isotope Deuterium-Labeled Reagents – Part 5: Tropane Series-D9\".
