Date: 2020-10-23 Clicks: 18 Recently, Qi Zengzhong, the regional manager of Southwest Chemical Engineering’s catalyst division, received a shipment – a purchase contract for conversion and methanol synthesis catalysts from Dingzhou Tianlu New Energy Co., Ltd. for the year 2020. The total value of this contract is over 10 million yuan; the catalysts supplied by Southwest Chemical Engineering will be used in Dingzhou Tianlu’s facility for producing methanol from coke oven gas. This contract is one of the largest single contracts in the industry for methanol production from coke oven gas. Dingzhou Tianlu New Energy Co., Ltd. is a loyal customer of Southwest Chemical in the field of methanol production from coke oven gas. The company has three units for producing methanol from coke oven gas, and Southwest Chemical supplies the catalysts used for the conversion process as well as for methanol synthesis in all three units. Since the adoption of the Southwest Chemicals XNC-98 methanol synthesis catalyst in 2010, under identical operating conditions, the daily production of pure methanol in the two 100,000 tons/year plants has increased by more than 30 tons. The amount of coke oven gas required per ton of pure methanol produced has decreased by approximately 150 Nm3/h, resulting in significant improvements in production efficiency, energy savings, and cost reduction. On the conversion unit, due to the multiple start-up and shutdown cycles of the conversion catalyst during operation, the residual methane at the outlet of the converter under full-load operation is well below the design value; even when the water-to-methane ratio drops to 0.55–0.6, the methane level at the outlet remains below the design value. Since its operation to date, the methanol synthesis catalyst used in Southwest Chemical Industry has demonstrated significant advantages in terms of high productivity, while the conversion catalyst exhibits high activity; all operational parameters have reached advanced levels both domestically and internationally.
