The 1.43-billion-yuan Tongliao 240,000-ton fluidized-bed gasification ammonia synthesis project has entered the trial production phase

Recently, the technical upgrade project for the ammonia feedstock plant at Tongliao Meihua Biotechnology Co., Ltd. has entered the trial production phase. Once fully operational, it will have an annual production capacity of 240,000 tons of ammonia as a raw material, with liquid oxygen, liquid nitrogen, sulfur, and other by-products generated. Fluidized bed gasification is used for the upgrading of ammonia synthesis. The powder coal gasification + cyclone separation + washing process is used to prepare and purify crude syngas. At the same time, saturated steam is produced as a by-product from the medium to high heat energy of the crude syngas. The project is equipped with one 1,500-ton gasification furnace, with specifications of φ3200×16000, a design pressure of 6.2 MPa, and an operating pressure of 4.3 MPa. The total effective gas volume (CO+H2) is 63,000 m3/h. After the upgrade, the ammonia synthesis process consists of gasification, shift reaction, low-temperature methanol washing, liquid nitrogen washing, and ammonia synthesis at 15 MPa. The production capacity of the project is 240,000 tons per year of synthetic ammonia, along with 11,000 tons per year of liquid nitrogen, 5,700 tons per year of liquid oxygen, 9,200 tons per year of liquid argon, and 2,290 tons per year of sulfur. Location: Located in the Kerqin Industrial Park (South Area), Mulitu Town, Tongliao City, Inner Mongolia. To the south is the existing 160,000 tons per year ammonia synthesis plant area; to the north are areas reserved for future development. To the east lies the main north-south freight corridor and the dedicated railway line in the park, while to the west there is open space. The project covers an area of 15.35 hm2. Total investment and environmental protection investment: The total investment in the project is 1,436.2205 million yuan, of which 50.6 million yuan is allocated to environmental protection measures, accounting for approximately 3.52% of the total investment. Labor force requirement: The total number of employees required for the project is 200. Construction scale: The total production capacity is 240,000 tons per year of synthetic ammonia, 11,000 tons per year of liquid nitrogen, 5,700 tons per year of liquid oxygen, 9,200 tons per year of liquid argon, and 2,290 tons per year of sulfur. Project Composition: The entire project is divided into four functional areas: the production unit area, the utility area, the liquid ammonia tank area, and the flare area. Status of existing ammonia synthesis plants: According to the environmental impact assessment document for the technical upgrade project of the ammonia feedstock production facility at Tongliao Jianlong Acid Production Co., Ltd., as published by the Tongliao Municipal Ecology and Environment Bureau, Tongliao Meihua Biology currently has 2 sets of ammonia synthesis plants using Endler furnace gasification. Phase 1: 80,000 tons, put into operation in 2006. Phase 2: 160,000 tons, commissioning in 2011. In 2020, Tongliao Meihua’s ammonia synthesis process consumed approximately 508,700 tons of standard coal (in equivalent terms) and 432,700 tons of standard coal (in equivalent value). The ammonia production was 230,284.9 tons. The energy consumption per ton of ammonia produced is 1.878 tce, which does not meet the existing requirements for energy consumption in ammonia synthesis; moreover, its level of automation, as well as its safety and environmental protection features, are inferior to those of the industry standard. Tongliao Jianlong Acid Production Co., Ltd. is a subsidiary of Tongliao Meihua Biotechnology Co., Ltd. The two ammonia synthesis units of Meihua Bio were handed over to Jianlong Acid Production Company for management. The technical upgrades to the ammonia synthesis production line are also carried out by Jianlong Acid Production Company.
