The fertilizer business unit of Zhongyuan Dahua carried out planned and orderly shutdown for maintenance. Author/Source: Zhongyuan Dahua Date: 2020-12-11 Clicks: 14 On the evening of December 5, it began to get dark. The ammonia synthesis plant in the Fertilizer Division was brightly lit, with staff in the control room and on-site duty rooms ready to take on the first task of this year’s major maintenance campaign: shutting down the plant. In the control room, the on-duty controller kept a close eye on the computer screens to ensure proper operation of the processes on site, while also paying close attention to the instructions given by the supervisors. Yin Xutao, General Manager of the Fertilizer Business Unit, Wang Qingjie, Deputy General Manager, Zhao Wanjie, Director of the Ammonia Synthesis Plant, and Liu Hongan, Deputy Director, were all present to make the final arrangements for the upcoming shutdown. Inside the on-site control room, in addition to the personnel on duty, there were experienced senior workers from various shifts as well as new employees. The new employees gathered in small groups, following the engineers on duty; they wore safety helmets and carried wrenches and walkie-talkies, waiting for orders. At 18:00 exactly, a command came over the radio: “Start stopping.” ” First is the parking for the synthesis position. Yang Song, the engineer in charge of the synthesis process, led everyone to Unit 10 to shut down the ammonia recovery system: he opened the bypass shut-off valve for 10C003, closed the gas inlet valve for 10C003 as well as the PV10002A shut-off valve... In the darkness of the night, the technicians working on the synthesis process were all busy and working intensively. The supervisor keeps an eye on the changes in each parameter on the computer, while maintaining constant communication with the workers on site via walkie-talkies and giving them instructions ; The experienced workers on site carefully carried out each parking step following the instructions from the controller and relying on their own experience ; New employees follow their mentors, learning and accumulating experience through practice. Everything is progressing steadily, quickly, and in an orderly manner. On December 4th, upon receiving the shutdown notice, the urea plant held an emergency mobilization meeting for the maintenance work that same afternoon, provided training for supervisors, displayed inspiring promotional banners for the maintenance effort, and revised the shutdown schedule based on the designated timeline, stopping operations at 20:00 on December 4th as planned. Although this winter maintenance came rather suddenly, the urea plant in the Fertilizer Division had already carried out extensive preparatory work for the overhaul in advance. In October of this year, the branch factory already prepared a plan for the winter overhaul. The equipment that needed to be replaced, such as the medium-pressure decomposer E102 in the urea production unit and the high-pressure ammonia pump P101, was already available in advance. Additionally, to ensure the safe and smooth progress of the overhaul this winter, the branch factory distributed electronic versions of various safety training materials at the end of November for everyone to study and master. Through the scientific planning by the urea plant manager and process engineers, careful organization and thorough arrangements, as well as the skilled operation of the on-site process staff who provided full cooperation, this shutdown was carried out smoothly, safely, with high quality and in an environmentally friendly manner. This has set a good start for preparing thoroughly for the winter maintenance of the urea plant in 2020. As of December 6, the process emissions from the urea plant have been completed, and the system purging and handover are nearing completion. On December 7, the urea plant began its comprehensive overhaul.
