Recently, good news came from the methanol center of Yuenenghua Company: the liquid expander of Unit 4 has been operating stably for over two months since it was put into use. It has generated approximately 158,400 kWh of electricity, which, based on the company’s current electricity pricing, results in cost savings of around 77,000 yuan. Over the course of a year, the two liquid expanders in use can save approximately 920,000 yuan in electricity costs, thereby reducing the total energy consumption of the air separation unit by about 3%. According to the management of the Methanol Center, the secondary air separation unit was designed with liquid expanders equipped with braking generators during the initial design phase. This arrangement increases the cooling capacity and reduces the frequency of use of high-pressure air throttle valves. Additionally, it enables the recovery of pressure energy from high-pressure liquid air to generate electricity for grid supply, thereby reducing the operational energy consumption of the air separation unit. Reliable interlock logic is employed to ensure stable operation of the plant. During the operation, the manufacturers and various technical specialists worked overtime; through tasks such as stress adjustment at the pipe connections, pipeline purging, oil circulation, instrument calibration, logic testing, individual motor tests, system drying, pre-cooling, and cold tightening, they overcame various difficulties to complete the commissioning of the liquid expansion machine and get it up and running successfully. The person in charge of the methanol unit said that in the next step, through the joint efforts of all employees and by leveraging their extensive practical experience, they will strive to ensure the stable, continuous, and efficient operation of the facility, while also making ongoing contributions to reducing energy consumption and maintaining the stable operation of the unit.
