Civil work has begun on the coal-to-ammonia/hydrogen peroxide project at the Bijie phosphate coal chemical complex

According to reports from the Bijie Pilot Zone in May 2026, at the site of the Bijie phosphate-coal chemical integration project, nearly 4,000 construction workers and over 800 sets of equipment are working at full capacity to meet deadlines and accelerate progress; a modern chemical industry city is emerging from the blueprints into reality. Currently, all sub-projects are progressing as planned. The iron phosphate and utility sub-projects have entered the equipment installation phase. The sub-projects of phosphoric acid, coal-based ammonia, and hydrogen peroxide have entered the civil construction phase. The remaining sub-projects are progressing in an orderly manner with pile foundation and base construction. The related infrastructure, such as the sewage drainage networks for fire stations, has also seen full-scale construction commence. As planned, the project will be operational by the end of June 2026 to produce 300,000 tons of iron phosphate, by the end of September to produce 300,000 tons of phosphoric acid, and by the end of December to produce 150,000 tons of lithium iron phosphate. Thereafter, 150,000 tons of lithium iron phosphate will be produced on a quarterly basis, with corresponding rolling construction. All production lines will be built and put into operation by June 2028. The integrated phosphorus-coal chemical industry park in Bijie, Guizhou is planned to include a sulfur-based acid production facility with an annual capacity of 1.6 million tons, a pyrite-based acid production facility with an annual capacity of 400,000 tons, a wet-process phosphate production facility with an annual capacity of 900,000 tons, facilities for producing ferric phosphate and handling wastewater with an annual capacity of 1.5 million tons, a lithium iron phosphate production facility with an annual capacity of 900,000 tons, a coal-based synthetic ammonia production facility with an annual capacity of 600,000 tons, a hydrogen peroxide production facility with an annual capacity of 900,000 tons, facilities for the harmless treatment and resource utilization of phosphogypsum with an annual capacity of 4.5 million tons, a facility for producing cement as a by-product of sulfuric acid from phosphogypsum with an annual capacity of 1.4 million tons, and a facility for purifying phosphate with an annual capacity of 450,000 tons. In the first phase, 300,000 tons of synthetic ammonia are produced annually, using coal as the raw material. The production process involves a large-scale 2500t/d coal powder furnace for gasification (semi-boiler process), isothermal shift reaction, purification through low-temperature methanol washing, further refinement via liquid nitrogen washing, and ammonia synthesis at low pressure. The first phase of the hydrogen peroxide production uses the anthraquinone process, with an annual output of 450,000 tons of hydrogen peroxide; of this amount, 27.5% corresponds to 390,000 tons of 35% hydrogen peroxide, while 35% corresponds to 60,000 tons of the same concentration.
